A few weeks ago I uploaded a reel on Instagram and it was our first viral reel! Having a reel go viral means close to nothing in reality but I love that it was this reel in specific. As a family, and as a society, it’s so important to us!
But I won’t make you scroll down, here is the video, and here is why is special to us!
Recovery after a traumatic experience
I can’t help but be in awe of how truly amazing God is! Many people don’t know but our first C-section was a very traumatic experience, you can read more about it here, but long story short, we had an Emergency C-section after we were told our daughter’s cord had prolapsed. When this happens babies have a very short time to be delivered and can be born brain dead or lose their lives in the process. It’s rare but we were the 1 in the 800-1000 births! It was such a rough experience. For the longest, I had the most difficult time even talking about it.
Now when we got pregnant again, I was resting in God that everything would be perfect, but I won’t lie I still had moments of fear! When we were scheduled for our C-section, a sweet friend, who I would say is family to us, made sure our day was exceptional!
You know those angels that God sends to help you along the way, this was Tonya to us! The day could not have gone better and this moment was captured as I was in the OR, with her, getting stitched back up and Lester had the opportunity to do skin-to-skin with baby Cami!
This moment will forever be marked in my memory and I’m sure in Camilla’s life too!
I can honestly say that, if we don’t have another baby, at this point who knows, I’m glad this was the closing to that chapter, again God is over-doing it as usual.
Healing
As a C-section mom, there are so many things that we miss, many things that we wish we could have done and one of those is the skin-to-skin moments with our babies! Though many states now allow this time for moms, when I was pregnant it was not a possibility. With my first, I don’t even remember seeing her after she was born. I only remember seeing her hours after the delivery since I was under anesthesia, and she had to get checked. With Cami, I saw her got some pictures and daddy took her!
If you were wondering can Dads have skin-to-skin? The answer is YES!
C-section moms request daddy skin-to-skin time. It will be life-changing for the entire family!
Society Reminder
In a world where being a good dad is nothing, where father figures are rare, I love that this video serves as a reminder that father figures are key! That fathers are needed in the homes just as much as moms! Statistics show that 75% of prisoners come from fatherless homes! (85% in Texas)
I found these statics online and it broke my heart, but as a child whose father was absent, I can honestly say, my mom and step-father did a great job but that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t hard! That in many moments I longed for my dad to be there! It wasn’t until I got older and with a lot of prayers that I was able to overcome some feelings. Even after getting married, I brought some of those feelings along and I’m thankful to God for a great husband who was able to help and build me up in many areas where I lacked as a child! I love my father and talk to him often as an adult but being a child of divorce was hard, more on that later.
Moral of the Story
Dads, don’t let anyone tell you, you are not important or you have no role in your child’s life, on the contrary, you dictate more than you know!
You shape more than you could even imagine, so be there, be present and take action.
Your wife and children need you more than they could express.
Love your kids and remind them of that often, they need it even when they say they don’t care!
I hope this post inspires you to take action. To remind you how important you are to God and to your family!
