Texas is hot and we all know it!
It’s not a lie! In Texas we have two seasons, summer and summer-meets-fall type of season which means we are all trying to escape the heat all year long. That said, so are the bugs!
It’s no secret that once the heat comes the bugs start to look for places to hide inside our garages or any cool area they can find. I have no problem as long as they stay away from me. They can go hide, but not in my home. But let’s be honest, with as much rain as we have been getting, we are prepping our areas outside the home to keep these little pests from coming in!
Here is the issue: We live in a house that’s 22 years old and all the houses around us are about the same age, but we live in a rural area. Meaning that pretty close to us there is a very large field that only God knows what lives there, and as much as our area is developing, it is Texas so everything is rather big.
Now, another important thing that I should mention is that my girls don’t care about the heat! They love to be outside which means mom or dad have to be outside too. We have gotten a pretty good hand at avoiding mosquitoes, but today I want to share a few tips on how we keep our area clear of spiders, roaches, and all the pesky little creatures.
- Keep it dry. Though it’s been extremely hot, it’s also been raining a lot. Like almost every day. We have a giant-size squeegee that we use to clear all the water from our back porch to help keep the area dry!
- Make sure all food is out of sight. I know this is hard with kids as they seem to leave a little trail of food crumbs where they go or even candy wrappers, but roaches and ants look for these like crazy.
- Use a good spray. Spray all areas outside the home and access points like doors and windows! This helps with them not only staying out of your area outside but inside the home as well! For this, we use Hot Shot® Ant, Roach & Spider Killer! I get mine at the Dollar General. You know I’m always looking for a great deal, and it lasts me a good while! Hot Shot® Ant, Roach & Spider Killer kills them on contact (*Excluding harvester ants) so it’s a must in a house of 3 girls! The best part, with the Floral scent, my house doesn’t have that smell we all dislike! We use it one time and we are bug-free for the next 3 months (**On non-porous surfaces; excluding spiders, fleas and carpenter, pharaoh and fire ants). Hot Shot® Ant, Roach & Spider Killer takes care of the following bugs: ants, cockroaches, spiders, fleas, crickets, Asian lady, beetles, stink bugs, palmetto bugs, and waterbugs. Enough said right! (Use and store as directed.)
Whether in Texas or all over the US be sure to head to your nearest Dollar General, Walmart, The Home Depot, or Publix to have a great summer!
This spray has been a nerve-calmer for me this summer. Northeast, Ga has been taken over by Joro Spiders. My back deck was full of them. It was getting so bad, I was afraid to walk outside. This spray kills them! Thank you!
I completely agree. I’m sure if it’s the heat but it’s been out of control! So happy that it’s working for you!
