For the last few years, I have started my year with a word in mind! A word that helps me focus on one lifestyle change instead of a resolution! A word that motivates me to make an all-around change instead of just one area!
Every year I pick a word from a lesson or an important moment I had the previous year and well this new, 2023, is no different!
Last year flew by for many of us, but in my heart, I feel that it went by as fast as it did because we, as a family were none stop the entire year! From a full home to full cars (someone please give me a tip on keeping a clean car), to our to-do lists and life overall!
In mid-December I got sick, then the girls followed along and passed it back to me and it was a very hard time, but at the end of the day, all I really wanted was my family. Their hugs, their love, and spending time with them!
All things I so often overlook, daily honestly, because I’m consumed by everything else on my list! The never-ending list.
I read a study that talked about the amount of time we spend cleaning, cooking, and doing laundry. Any guesses? The study said we spend around 42 hours a month cleaning. That’s more than an hour a day.
And honestly, if you think about it, is not a bad total, but at the end of the day, is every room of your home clean?
Not in my house for sure!
That’s without even mentioning the study of the number of hours we spend looking for lost things! 5000 hours! Really!
All of this leads me to the following conclusion.
We need to simplify our home. And it’s so hard!
In a generation where more is better, having less is extremely hard!
I’m typing this and I have a total of 13 boxes that need to be taken to the attic to store, all of CHRISTMAS items, looking right at me!
Honestly, if we had to move from this house, I have no idea what I would do!
That’s how simplify became my word of the year!
I want to live for God and my family not maintaining things or even worse looking for lost things!
This means simplifying our entire life, little by little.
Allowing us to spend more time on the things that actually matter!
I don’t want to spend hours cleaning and preparing my home for company to come over. Or spend extra time doing laundry to just have it sit in a drawer for weeks. Or spend 30 minutes doing dishes instead of laying in bed with my family.
I want to stop worrying about the little things and focus on the big picture. I want to sit down and spend time in God’s presence and not feel bad about the situation of my home!
In the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing a few tips and tricks, amazing creators that have simplified their lives, and a few videos!
Now it’s your turn.
